Israel’s Story: Part Two $9.95 “In the first volume of this work, Dianne Bergant leads readers in an exploration of the earliest years of Israelite history, from the accounts of creation in Genesis through the divided Kingdom of David. Already drawn into the drama of Israel’s beginnings, readers of Israel’s Story–Part One will be eager to pick up this second volume and continue the journey. Those who have not read the first volume can easily enter Part Two and save Part One for a later time. From the theological significance of the Davidic monarchy to the prophetic call to covenant faithfulness, from the Babylonian exile to the influence of Greek culture on Jewish thought and practices, from the oral culture to the written word that is now the Old Testament–Israel’s Story–Part Two allows readers to delight in and appreciate more fully both the depth and diversity of our ancestors in faith. Bergant, in these two volumes, stands before readers as the teacher who makes history come alive, in this case helping us discover that Israel’s story is our Christian story as well. Includes a glossary and timeline.” |

Sun Country Airlines Looks Toward A Bright Future
In the early Nineteen Eighties, former employees of Braniff Airlines set to create an airline, and the result was Sun Country Airlines. The folks who started Sun Country loved their chosen fields in aviation, so they did what anybody would do - they created their own airline. They did terribly well for themselves, unfortunately what happened in September of 2001 dealt such a blow to the airline that they stopped all operations in December. However that didn't last long because they were bought by investors who worked hard to resurrect Sun Country. Then yet yet one more time Sun Country Airlines was ready to beat adversity and rise to the occasion.
When Sun Country Airlines first opened their doors, they had a grand total of 33 employees all of whom worked doing multiple jobs. This company was started by former employees of Braniff Airlines; so these people were no strangers to the work or putting in long hours. Even the pilots and flight attendants pitched in and did multiple jobs. That is a prime example of what motivation and the will to succeed can accomplish. Their profitability did not take long at all, and it in fact happened very quickly in several months.
In the fall of 2010, the airline was fully involved with bankruptcy proceedings and a plan for reorganization was in place. In such matters, a judge in the appropriate court must approve a plan such as this. Also, often times the creditors that the company owes will become involved in the evaluation and voting process. It is important for the creditors to approve the plan because that is how they will recoup their investment. The overall plan typically consists of cash payouts plus allotment of equity within the company.
About one year ago, in December of 2009, Sun Country Airlines treated a group of 80 children in ages ranging from 5 -12 to an imaginary flight to the North Pole. The whole affair was simply called, A Flight To The North Pole. Sun Country put this together with the help of Big Brothers and Sisters of the United Way. The whole intent was to make a small group of underprivileged children very happy over the Christmas season. The plane taxied up and down the runway for about half an hour, and the Sun Country employees treated the kids to a big story about flying to the North Pole.
The story of Sun Country Airlines is a lot like any story of the American dream of building something good. It emerged from a larger airline that went under, Braniff Airways. The history of Sun Country is full of many high spots and recognition. You cannot dismiss the many awards and mentions they have received, both nationally and internationally. So there is every reason to hope that there are brighter skies ahead for Sun Country Airlines.
