Veterans Benefits Education Should Be Looked Into By Military Personnel For Success In University Distance Learning Degree Programs
We have military men and women stationed all over the world. They all work long hours doing a vital job, and it benefits us as a nation to have a well-educated military. Fortunately, technological advances have made online college a great way for our military members to get their college degrees, even if they aren’t stateside. Now, with additional educational benefits, these men and women can use the GI Bill to help pay for it.
The GI Bill is a multi-faceted educational assistance program that is designed specifically for military members who want to further their education. The advent of online schools makes it easier for military students to get their degrees because of the inherent flexibility of the program. However, even though many online degree programs are less expensive than a traditional university, military students still need financial assistance to help cover costs.
The GI Bill has more than one program available for members who qualify. For example, the Post 9/11 GI Bill has special benefits for military men and women who served 90 consecutive days following the tragic events of September 11, 2001. These members are able to receive not only tuition assistance, but housing assistance under certain circumstances.
Another portion of the GI Bill that is designed specifically for active duty members who are currently in service is the Montgomery GI Bill. Active duty members can receive up to 36 months of educational benefits, which they can apply to a wide variety of educational programs. For example, members can attend college degree programs, or certain certification, flight training, job training, or apprenticeships programs, as well.
Military members can use the Montgomery Bill to help meet both career and educational goals. The Bill was designed with flexibility in mind and qualified participants can also increase their benefits with a program called the $600 Buy-Up Program. By contributing $600 to the Buy-Up Program, participants increase their share of Montgomery Bill educational assistance by $5,400.
The $600 Buy-Up program is an ideal tool for members who want to go even further with their education. Ideal candidates include members who are pursuing graduate degrees at the master or doctorate level. It may also be very beneficial to military students who are interested in changing career tracks, who need additional training or education to get there.
Part of being in the military is moving on a frequent basis; as much as every two or three years (and sometimes even more for training). All that moving can interrupt a college degree program, and credits don’t always transfer from school to school. With an online degree, military students can stay enrolled in one school no matter where they have to move; they just need an Internet connection to keep their studies active.
Our men and women in the Armed Forces deserve all the educational assistance they can get. They've definitely earned it and military distance learning resources can help them in their pursuits. Not having to worry about how to pay for online course programs is a small bit of peace they can have with the GI Bill. As long as they are ready to put in the effort, the military degrees they’ve dreamed of can be earned with the dedication they’ve already demonstration.

(I am) A Real American: Memoirs of a 3rd Generation Japanese-American USAF Fighter Pilot $11.85 Bob Kan is a third generation Japanese-American (JA). The chapters in this book were originally written for family and close friends for their information and entertainment. After Bob joined the Japanese American Veterans Association (JAVA) in 2007, he began to realize that his career would not have been possible without the heroism of those second generation veterans. They demonstrated their patriotism and loyalty in battles across Europe and Asia, proving that they were REAL AMERICANS. Their sacrifices enabled Bob to be accepted and integrated years later into the elite world of Air Force combat fighter pilots. Realizing that he was part of this evolution, Bob decided to publish these chapters. In WW II, the highest-ranking JA officer was Major. Since the Vietnam War over 35 JAs have attained the rank of general or admiral. There were no JA pilots or navigators in WW II, and there were relatively few in the Korean War. All military units were desegregated by the time Bob entered the Air Force in 1955. He writes that he did not experience any racial discrimination in his fifty or so years in the USAF, working with our defense industry or in any private business. This is not a racial protest, but there are stories about ethnic misconceptions, often humorous. The Japanese Americans' story is part of American History. Only in America...... |
