Is The Canadian Financial Position - Stable?

Is there any need for us to worry about the economy of our country, isn't the most difficult part over and done with now? This is not the situation and now the Canadian economy is facing more problems than the average person thinks.

We have all heard the Bank of Canada's views on this; that any problems are only short-term and then things will be getting better rapidly. The bank states that energy prices should start dropping, or at least not rise anymore. With the problems in Japan, it has been named as the cause or reason behind the most recent depression we are having. This sounds appropriate but it is not really true, especially if we look past the situation in Japan, as it is the consumer who represents the economy. The events in Japan will affect us, just as it affects the rest of the world, but it is definitely not the principal reason. We therefore have to look closer to home, with the employment situation being erratic, the climbing gas prices and all around prices increases, the future is unsettled.

The Canadian debt to personal means ratio is at present about 1.5, a bit higher than the US pre-depression ratio. We can say that the current situation in the Canadian banking division is more stable and better prepared for the debt shock. If it came, the effect of a fall in home prices caused by the recession would have considerably milder effects on banking sector profits than it had four years ago on the US one. In the US there have been bailouts that influence the US economy, while with the banking situation as it is in Canada we are unlikely to see the same situation here.

A point that you need to be aware of: in relation to the Canadian monetary status, including bank stocks and BC property market, is that Canada's economy is tied closely to that of the US. This intimates that the US dilemma could prejudice the Canadian domestic market quite considerably, regardless of our strength at the moment. Europe is also something which needs to be monitored, with countries such as Greece declaring bankruptcy, the problems confined to these areas could escalate to become bigger problems which could affect Canada. The shocks faced by the decline of the European economy could influence commodity prices, shifts surrounding the equity market or tightening of credit which could affect the property market.
